Win a family ticket to discover the coast’s fabulous new light festival

This winter, head to Scarborough to experience a new festive event, Scarborough Lights.

Scarborough Lights is the first event in the Scarborough Fair programme and will see

the whole town sparkle and shine from 15 November until 23 December, with many free light displays to enjoy. Scarborough Lights will bring together 15 installations across the town, many for the duration of the festival.

Find full details of the events.

Scarborough Lights will launch with a fabulous drone display over Scarborough Castle on Saturday, November 18. Nick Lane, a writer at Stephen Joseph Theatre, has created a script celebrating Scarborough’s past, present, and future, to accompany the launch. You can buy tickets to see the display from inside the castle.

The Peasholm Park Winter Lights Trail is an enchanting trail through Peasholm Park with a collection of unique and beautiful light artworks from the UK and Europe, many of them appearing in the UK for the first time.

Don’t miss the chance to see The Fading Light of Ruins at St Mary’s Church from 16 to 30 November, featuring incredible light artworks by Flemish artist Peter Snijder.

Ticket for both events must be booked in advance. Buy tickets here.

There are many other magical light installations to visit, including Ships Ahoy! at the harbour, Signs of the Times in the town centre, Drift-Lit at the railway station, Grue at Scarborough library, and external illuminations of the Town Hall, Rotunda Museum, Scarborough Spa, St Marys Church and Scarborough Castle.

Find more information and plan your visit.

As part of the event, a Live Advent Calendar will light up the town throughout December. Each day between 1 and 24 December, a different street in Scarborough will light up with festive displays, spreading joy and bringing communities together.

We're looking for residents, shops, businesses, artists, performers, schools and community groups to create windows or to host windows created by others. If you think your street might like to be involved, or you’re an artist with ideas, or a business that likes to get creative, we'd love to hear from you. Find more information and get involved at the online recruitment session on Wednesday, 11 October.
